PALM BAY INVESTIGATIONS
Palm Bay city employees Joseph Poteat and Sherry Poteat redirected
82-year old Evelyn Jane Karwel's Allstate hurricane insurance money to their
home address at 1027 Canton Street. Evelyn's insurance money was deposited into
Palm Bay city employee's personal Space Coast Credit Union checking account in
an endeavor to steal, money launder, and defraud.

Lannon's investigation comes as Palm Bay has fallen under scrutiny for
the way it has handled grants and the filing of reports to the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development. Also in question are state funds used in a
local program that provides housing to disabled veterans called "Homes for
Warriors." The latter involves a somewhat murky relationship between the
city and a Palm Bay-based veterans group formerly called the Space Coast
Paratroopers Association. Contact Price at 321-242-3658 or wprice@floridatoday.com.
